I have been practicing speedrunning a lot recently, and the rapier is always the weapon of choice. This makes sense for a lot of reasons; It has one of the fastest attack speeds in the game. Rapier is ridiculous. Just started a fresh character to pass an hour this morning and grabbed myself a rapier, at +4 it's already crushed the last giant, pursuer and dragonrider first try, including runs to the bosses. I'm not exactly great at DS2 but my god this thing's R1 feels so safe to punish enemies with, think I've had to down 2-3 chugs ... Ds3 and Elden Ring are much more timing and pressure focused. Time your rolls, push them to prevent healing, and measure when they roll to hit. DS2 feels a lot more about stamina management and weapon speed. Stamina regen is punished a lot more, and thanks to the Stone ring most all attacks will true combo to two hits.
