Apparently this rifle was made in 1964 and sold through a licensed dealer to my relative in 1965. I am thinking about selling it. I asked Marlin why it did not number the rifle and they said it was made before 1968 and no serial number ...I just inherited a nice Marlin model 1894. I found a link to find the date of manufacture but when I put in the 4 digit serial number 14XX the date comes up 1882. How could a model 1894 be made in 1882? I would like to date this rifle as I am interested in trading for a Colt 1911. Any and all help would be appreciated. My father inherited a Marlin Model 1894 from his brother. The serial number is 237917, the dates are, "October 11, 1887 - August 1, 1893", it has an octagon barrel which my father says is 30".
