I need to replace the buffer on a marlin 60 .22 from about 1980. I know I can buy one of these cheap enough, but I like to make stuff better. what would be a good replacement material for this? The new black buffers are made out of a different material. Kind of like boot soul material, not quite as hard as the originals. I have an 80 model 60 and 81 model 75C. Both with original springs. There are two different buffers, one with a small hole for the pin and one with a larger hole. If you put a buffer with a large hole on a rifle with a small pin you will get more "play". The Model 75 has a similar looking buffer. I'm hoping, for the time being, that I can use the buffer from the model 75 to replace the one in the Model 60 and at least get the 60 back up and running. I removed the buffer from the 75 with no difficulty. Looks like someone just dumped oil/grease in and kept shooting.
