The model 27 barrels will work as well but have a bright finish and serrated top rib. Only recently did I get curious as to the age of it. Seems wherever I go on the internet, I am told you can find the serial number and age in the "Smith & Wesson Standard Catalog".Or on the metal of the butt. Since you asked about the model number and not the serial number, it will not be on the bottom of the grip frame, nor will it be under the stocks. If it has a model number at all, it will be in the yoke cutout. If it was made before 1957, it won't have a model number at all. You should post the serial number.
