Hold the drive shaft and see if you can rotate the joint end on the transfer case yoke back and forth to see if there is play in the joint. If you can't notice a problem with the joint, check the front u-joint for play. If this is a part time transfer case, we could remove the driveshaft and see if the noise goes away in 4x4.The fix is to file away any rust build-up with a file. And of course, make sure the caliper moves in/out freely on it's sliding pins. So, while you (or whoever) is in there looking at the emergency brakes, ensure the pads are not pinched and calipers move freely also. Good luck.
