Turn key and nothing happens but lights work

Tried a few times, wiggled the key, no joy. The interior lights came on just fine and were bright. I went ahead and got a brand new battery considering my current was an OEM. .

Get in, put key in ignition (if door is still open I get the dinging sound that the key is in the ignition), turn key, absolutely nothing.
